Oscar Pistorius also known as the ‘Blade Runner’ received a Laureus Disability Award. He won the Sportsperson of the Year with a disability, this is after he won a number of races in 2011. This is after he won three IPC Athletics World titles in New Zealand, T44 400m in 47.28s and the 100m in 11.04s at the BT Paralympic World Cup and on 19 July he set a personal best of 45.07s in the 400m in Lignano, Italy.

The awards are attended by the whose who of the sports industry and some hollywood celebrities. The award winning athlete was also nominated for the World Breakthrough of the Year award, which was won by Irish golfer Rory McIlroy. The 2012 awards which were for 2011 calender year were hosted by Clive Owens.
